Theresa Dominguez (she/her)

Clinical Psychologist, Human

BPsychSci(Hons), MClinPsych, MAPS

I have worked and volunteered as a clinical psychologist, peer worker and counsellor in a variety of private and public mental healthcare settings over the last fifteen years. I love to meet new people and hear their stories. I listen deeply and focus on getting to know the person sitting across from me.

I use everyday language, humour and analogies to try to make a session feel like a conversation, not an interview. I'm quite laidback, like to make jokes and I swear when no other words are quite right. I do my best to show up as both a professional and a normal down-to-earth person. I believe that building a safe and trusting relationship with a psychologist is the most important part of therapy and assessment and should always come first.

my values

All of my work is person-centered and grounded in a humanistic approach. I believe that making real connections and sharing genuine human experiences can help us deal with a lot of what life throws at us. With the right support, we can all thrive.

I provide trauma-informed care, prioritising choice, knowledge and empowerment for all clients.

I practice neuroaffirming approaches, encouraging authenticity for individuals of all neurotypes and strive to tailor social and sensory aspects of our work to each person’s needs.

I am committed to creating a safe, affirming space for people of all genders and sexualities, supporting clients at any stage of their journey.

I welcome people in all forms of non-monogamous and polyamorous relationships. I am also sex-positive and welcome and respect sex workers.

My Approach

koko Mental Health is built on the idea that we all deserve the respect and support that we need to

keep on keeping on through life's challenges.

Life is tough but with genuine connections we can face our challenges with strength, find purpose and make positive and long lasting change.

In my experience as both a psychologist and client I've learned that pain is inevitable but suffering doesn't have to be. I firmly believe that our challenges strengthen our character and make us who we are.

Most of us are just playing life on the hardest level we've ever made it to.

We all need a bit of support to keep on keeping on.

"In the midst of winter I found there was within me, an invincible summer... no matter how hard the world pushes against me, within me, there's something stronger - something better, pushing right back" Albert Camus

We acknowledge the traditional custodians of the lands on which we work, the Wurundjeri Woi Wurrung and Bunurong people of the Kulin Nation. We pay our respects to their elders past and present. We acknowledge the ongoing impacts of generational trauma and all Australians' responsibility to work toward equality. We respect the wisdom and healthcare practices that have been shared on these lands for many thousands of years.
